Marissa Vallecillo

Marissa Vallecillo is a community organizer, connector, and a youth advocate. As a third-generation Mexican American who was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, she finds joy in using her lived experiences as a means to support others in the community.
In the fall of 2021, Marissa became the first in her family to graduate with a bachelors in political science and sociology. She is driven by local efforts and offers a helping hand when new leaders emerge. Her work includes hosting political events, assisting mutual aid and youth-led groups, and connecting with young people starting their advocacy journeys.
Marissa joined forces with Michaela Atkins, another youth organizer in Omaha, to co-found Youth Elect in 2024. Youth Elect has become a space where young people can build their collective power to advocate for change on the local level.
Marissa's Civic Action Plan:
Marissa is focused on getting everyday Omahans involved with the city’s budget process. She wants to give community members an opportunity to learn, understand city priorities and city departments, and then move advocates towards solutions. From there her goal is to mobilize community members to testify throughout the budget process so that their voices are reflected in the final outcome.
