Voter Assistance
You can register in person at several locations:
To register by mail:
›› Your county clerk/election commissioner (click here to find yours).
›› At a Nebraska DMV office, when you apply for or renew your driver’s license.
›› You can also register to vote at other Nebraska agencies, like the Department of Health & Human Services, or the Department of Education. You can also register at your public library.
›› Print and complete the Nebraska Voter Registration Application.
›› If you are registering for the first time in Nebraska, include one of the following:
- Copy of a current Nebraska driver’s license or state ID
- A copy of a document, such as a bank statement or utility bill that is dated within the last 60 days AND shows your correct name and address (as it appears on your application)
›› Make sure you sign the application!
›› Mail the application to your county clerk/election commissioner (click here to find yours).

Voting by Mail
Once you’ve registered to vote, you can choose to vote by mail. To request a mail-in ballot, fill out this form and mail it to your county clerk/election commissioner.
Military & Overseas Voters
In addition to Nebraska’s Voter Registration Application, military personnel living outside of Nebraska and citizens living overseas can also use the Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Request Federal Post Card Application – this form will serve as both your registration AND your request for a mail-in ballot.
Registration Deadlines in Nebraska
To vote in an upcoming election, you must meet Nebraska voter registration deadlines:
Mailed applications must be postmarked on or before the third Friday before an election.
Applications delivered by outside agencies (like the DMV) must be delivered no later than the third Friday before an election.
Applications made in person at the County Clerk/Election Commissioner’s office must be completed before 6 p.m. on the 2nd Friday before an election.
NOTE: If you have recently moved to Nebraska and have not registered to vote by the deadline, you can cast a ballot for President ONLY. Contact your local County Clerk/Election Commissioner for more information.
Changing your Voter Registration
In Nebraska, you MUST complete a new Nebraska Voter Registration Application when you change your:
Name.
Address.
Party affiliation.
If you move WITHIN a county OR you change your name, you can change your registration AND vote at your new polling place on Election Day. However, to do so you will have to:
Complete a certification and new registration form.
Cast a provisional ballot, which will be counted only if your certification information is verified.
