Get Involved

The fight for voting rights is never over. That's why Civic Nebraska works to ensure all eligible voters enjoy rightful access to the ballot. We organize to advocate for pro-voter initiatives and halt measures that make it harder to vote.

Join our efforts! We have volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

Protect elections

Civic Nebraska has deployed nonpartisan observers – Election Protectors – to Nebraska polling places in every statewide primary and general election since 2012.
Election Protectors act in a passive role, monitoring elections and the polling places and reporting their observations back to Civic Nebraska, particularly instances of concern.
As part of their observations, Election Protectors gather information and chronicle data regarding how elections are run from county to county in our state. They also record any irregularities or different treatment of voters. Volunteers will also confirm that polling places are compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Election Protectors must be at least 18 and live in Nebraska, and must attend one virtual or in-person training session before Primary Election Day.
Civic Nebraska uses the information that is gathered to build a post-election report, which is shared with county election officials, state election officials, and the public to identify areas of success and improvement. This report also informs future legislative initiatives that can improve Nebraska voters’ experiences.

Get out the vote

As each Election Day nears, Civic Nebraska participates in a range of GOTV (Get Out The Vote) activities, including tabling, door-to-door canvassing, helping voters get registered, and making phone calls. Our GOTV volunteers are nonpartisan, working to aid Nebraska voters from across the political spectrum.
VOLUNTEER TO GET OUT THE VOTE

Re-enfranchise voters

Punishing people by restricting their right to vote for a period beyond their sentence is archaic, excessive, and completely unjustified. In 2024, Civic Nebraska and partners led the charge to undo an outdated, unnecessary policy that forced justice-impacted Nebraskans to wait an additional two years after completion of sentence before being able to register to vote.  Sign up for updates to learn about opportunities to get involved.
