2026 Nebraska Primary Election Midday Update: What Voters Should Know Before Polls Close

Today is Primary Election Day in Nebraska, and Civic Nebraska’s Civic Action and Election Protection team is continuing to support voters across the state.

As of midday, our Election Protection hotline has already received around 20 reports from Nebraskans. Most of the questions so far have focused on polling locations, voter registration status, and ballot options for nonpartisan voters.

Here are a few important reminders before polls close today.

Check your polling place before you go

If you still need to vote, make sure you know where to go. Nebraska voters must cast their ballot at their assigned polling place. You can check your polling place through the Nebraska Secretary of State’s voter portal, Nebraska VoterCheck.

Before heading to the polls, use Civic Nebraska’s Ballot Builder to see what’s on your ballot, learn about the candidates and issues, and make a voting plan. It’s a simple, nonpartisan tool to help you feel prepared before you vote: Ballot Builder.

Registered as a nonpartisan? Know your ballot options

If you are registered as a nonpartisan voter, you can still vote in today’s primary election. You will receive a nonpartisan ballot, but there is an extra step if you want to vote in eligible partisan primary races.

Nonpartisan voters can request a nonpartisan-partisan ballot when they check in with election workers at their polling place. This ballot is in addition to the nonpartisan ballot, and voters are only given one opportunity to vote in each race.

If you do not request a nonpartisan-partisan ballot, you may only receive the nonpartisan ballot. In some areas, that ballot may have few races or no races, depending on what is up for election in your district.

Bring a valid photo ID

Nebraska requires voter ID for statewide and special elections, so remember to bring a valid photo ID with you when you vote.
