The Civic Education team is seeking a Program Coordinator to support Civic Nebraska’s youth civic education initiatives. Through programs such as Nebraska’s Kid Governor®, the New American Youth Leadership Academy (NAYLA), and Capitol Experience Days, students gain opportunities to explore civic leadership, community engagement, and active citizenship. The Program Coordinator will help facilitate educational experiences, build relationships with educators and community partners, coordinate events and program activities, and support young people as they develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to make a positive impact in their schools and communities.

As the Civic Education Program Coordinator, you get to:

  • Support day to day operations of key education initiatives:
    • Alongside the Civic Education Programs Manager, support Nebraska’s Kid Governor
      • Assist with teacher and school communication
      • Track registration and school participation
      • Support campaign season logistics and materials distribution
      • Support the coordination and implementation of Cabinet member projects 
      • Assist with major program events, including the inauguration and public announcements 
    • Alongside the New American Youth Leadership Academy (NAYLA) Program coordinator, support NAYLA
      • Support the coordination of the weekly sessions, including scheduling, materials, location and guest speakers
      • Track student attendance and engagement
      • Be on-site during sessions and events to provide direct support
    • Alongside the Capitol Experience Specialist, support community based Capitol Experience Days 
      • Schedule and implement community based Capitol Experience Days
      • Prepare materials and coordinate logistics ahead of event days
      • Lead or assist on-site during Capitol visits
    • Alongside the Civic Education Programs Team, support the development of new initiatives 
      • Support pilot projects and new initiatives through logistics, scheduling and follow-up
      • Assist with the development and preparation of new program materials, toolkits and resources
  • Provide outreach, communications and administrative support
    • Serve as a point of contact for teachers, families, schools and community partners
    • Represent Civic Nebraska and the Civic Education Programs at outreach events
    • Assist with data entry, reporting and program evaluation 
    • Contribute to newsletters and program updates
  • Work in collaboration with Civic Health and Civic Action teams on cross-program initiatives 
  • Track attendance, program outcomes, and student engagement data to support program evaluation and storytelling efforts.
  • Assist with end-of-semester events, student showcases, and community presentations.

  • Comfortable enforcing rules and appropriate behavior
  • Experience working with young people
  • Willingness to listen to new perspectives without judgment or personal input
  • Interest in youth civic engagement, community building, and education
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, schools, and community organizations.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Occasional evening and weekend availability 
  • Proficient use of Google Workspace and shared drives.

Salary & Benefits

This position will earn a salary ranging from $50,000 upward, dependent upon skills and experience. Benefit options include medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage. Position includes paid time off and a 401K option. This is a full-time exempt position.
