Jan. 4 marks the start of the 108th Nebraska Legislature, which meets at the State Capitol in Lincoln. It is the first year of the 2023-24 biennium, meaning it is a “long session,” or 90 legislative days. Senators are expected to be in session until early June.
With 49 members, the Nebraska Legislature is the smallest of any U.S. state. Unlike the legislatures of the other 49 states and the U.S. Congress, the Nebraska Legislature is a unicameral legislature, thus not separated into two houses. It is also nonpartisan and does not officially recognize its members’ political party affiliations.
