A new feature to navigate election threats

This week, Civic Nebraska introduced A Citizen’s Guide to Election Threats. This new online feature prepares Nebraskans and all Americans to face various potential challenges leading up to, during, and after the 2024 election.

The guide, available here, highlights how to address disinformation, extended periods of vote counting, and other disruptions that could impact the election process.

“We’re living in a time where the stakes for our democracy are incredibly high,” said Steve Smith, communications director at Civic Nebraska. “This election is unprecedented, and citizens should prepare now to know what to expect. And more importantly, how to respond to anything designed to create doubt, confusion, or chaos.”

The guide provides information and resources for every election stage, from pre-Election Day preparations to post-election periods. Drawing on a vast catalog of curated resources, A Citizen’s Guide to Election Threats connects to practical steps for recognizing disinformation, a state-by-state rundown of how the 2024 vote-counting process will likely go, and staying calm amid uncertainty.

“Our goal is to keep people informed, engaged, and resilient against tactics that could harm the democratic process,” Smith said. “This resource is meant to be a straightforward, empowering tool to help protect our elections and ensure they’re fair and accurate.”
