In the streets, in our neighborhoods – and in our schools, even on a Saturday. That’s where you’ll find Civic Nebraska, in its role with Collective Impact Lincoln.
On Feb. 10, Collective Impact Lincoln – a partnership between Civic Nebraska, Nebraska Appleseed, and the South of Downtown Community Development Organization – convened its first Community Builder Workshop at Dawes Middle School. Thirty neighborhood residents and leaders attended to deepen their connections with other community members. They also learned more about building community through civic action, and began identifying assets in their neighborhoods.
Collective Impact Lincoln, launched in 2017, supports community conversations, leadership, and action opportunities to help create a more vibrant and inclusive city. The project focuses on six Lincoln neighborhoods – Belmont, Clinton, Everett, Hartley, Near South, and University Place. Residents in those areas may have interacted with the CIL team, which is conducting a door-to-door listening project in the neighborhoods. The team’s goal is to connect with residents and learn more about the local issues that matter most.
Through May, CIL will host Community Builder Workshops at Dawes on the second Saturday of each month. We’ll be sharing details soon about our next workshop, which is set for March 10 at Dawes.
