Nebraskans, we need your voice – right now.
Earlier today [Jan. 7], our colleagues at Common Cause returned to court to prevent Nebraska Secretary of State Robert Evnen from handing over Nebraskans’ private voter information to the U.S. Department of Justice – this time seeking a restraining order to halt the office from releasing the data.
This is Common Cause’s second legal action to prevent the unnecessary and unrestricted release of sensitive voter data. You may remember that in September, for unknown reasons, the U.S. Department of Justice demanded Nebraska’s full, unredacted voter files, prompting public outrage and Common Cause’s initial lawsuit.
At the time, Evnen said he would wait for a legal resolution to that suit before acting. But he has recently reversed his position, saying he plans to release the files to the DOJ on Feb. 12.
This is not OK – and Nebraskans need to speak up.
›› Nebraska’s voter file contains sensitive personal information. Once released, it cannot be pulled back.
›› Releasing the data before the courts rule undermines trust, due process, and the integrity of our election system.
›› Voters were promised their privacy would be protected while the case is ongoing. That promise should be honored.
›› Data security matters. Voter information should never be treated casually or politically.
Take action today. Call or email the Secretary of State and tell him to halt the release of voter data until the courts have the opportunity to decide this case.

Be respectful. Be firm. Let him know Nebraskans expect better. And be clear about this final point: This is not a partisan issue. This is about privacy, data security, and the integrity of our elections. No matter how you vote, no matter your party, every Nebraskan has a stake in protecting their personal information and upholding public trust.
Your voice matters. Make the call. Speak up TODAY.
