The Nebraska Legislature’s Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee will hear public testimony about a pair of proposals (LB3 and LR24CA) next Thursday, Jan. 30. Both measures are partisan attempts to dismantle Nebraska’s longtime split electoral vote tradition by committing all five Electoral College votes to a “winner-take-all” process.
This hearing is the most direct way for fair-minded Nebraskans to defend our state’s split electoral vote system. With your help, we can make a nonpartisan case to lawmakers why it enhances voter engagement, drives higher turnout, and makes our relatively small state relevant in the national presidential campaign.
Civic Nebraska also opposes LB3 and LR24CA because the more voters are engaged and participating in elections, the more attention there is to down-ballot races during presidential elections. And that means better representation for Nebraskans.
If you are in the Lincoln/Omaha area, plan to join us at the hearing to voice your opposition to this partisan power grab. If you cannot attend in person, we strongly encourage you to submit your thoughts via the Committee’s web portal by 8 am CST on Thursday, Jan. 30.
