May 29: Join the nationwide Walk to Fix Our Democracy

Earlier this month we told you about Rick Hubbard, an 82-year-old Vermont man who has been walking across the United States and having conversations about making U.S. democracy more inclusive, responsive, and effective for all. In May, Rick has been putting one foot in front of another across Nebraska, and now he’s zeroing in on our Capital City. His journey will eventually end in January 2025 in Washington, D.C.
Join us at 2:30 pm CDT on Wednesday, May 29, at Hamann Rose Garden at Antelope Park in Lincoln – where we’ll meet up with Rick for a leg of his journey through the Star City. We’ll walk together to Shelter No. 1 at Antelope Park, where we’ll all have a chance to hear about Rick’s adventure so far, the planks of a small-d democratic reform platform, and learn about efforts in Nebraska to make democracy fairer and more representative for all.
Here’s our local route (see map). We’ll start by walking north along 27th Street toward Capitol Parkway. Then we’ll head east on the Rock Island and Billy Wolff trails past the northern edge of the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. Once passing A Street, we’ll walk a short distance to Shelter No. 1 in Antelope Park.
Snacks and light refreshments will be provided. If you’re not interested in walking but want to participate, please meet us around 3:15 pm CDT at Shelter No. 1 in Antelope Park. See you soon!
