This Thanksgiving, let’s talk turkey.

Nebraska, it’s time to talk turkey. Did you know one in six Americans stopped talking to a family member or close friend after the 2016 election? This November, Civic Nebraska challenges you to change the story and host a politically diverse group in your community to talk through differences. We’re giving five applicants $50 each to create a space for civil discourse this holiday season.

Apply by Nov. 4
Individuals and groups are invited to apply for one of our five $50 Talking Turkey Stipends, to be put toward a “discourse dinner” this holiday season. The deadline to apply is Nov. 4 – we’ll contact awardees the week of Nov. 7. Find the application form here.

Red, Blue, PURPLE
You bring the group together, and we’ll provide the video, prompts, discussion guide, and support to make your experience a success. We’ll use the 20-minute documentary film PURPLE as the jumping-off point for group conversations.

PURPLE tells the story of Americans with opposing viewpoints investigating their differences and discovering the concerns and experiences that lie behind each other’s positions. Filmed in rural Wisconsin and Iowa — in a swing region within two bordering swing states — PURPLE models a rare, mediated conversation that uplifts and inspires even while going toward the heat of passionate political differences.
