Peyton Savington, an organizer and convener with a wide skill set, is Civic Nebraska’s new volunteer and intern coordinator. They are responsible for recruitment, orientation, training, certification, scheduling, engagement, and recognition for our volunteers and part-time interns and helps interested community members find different opportunities at our organization. Peyton began in the role on March 10.
“Democracy thrives when citizens are engaged and communities are strong. It’s not just about voting, but about neighbors working together to build a better future,” they said. “When we participate in civic life, we honor our shared values and ensure that the government truly serves the people it represents, creating a more vibrant Nebraska for generations to come.”
Peyton builds and maintains relationships to work in coordination with local colleges, universities, cultural centers, and other potential partners to provide service-learning, internship, and volunteer opportunities for students and community members. They also schedule, coordinate, and assign volunteers or interns to our various events, programs, supervisors, and in-house mentors.
A native of Papillion and a 2022 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University, Peyton earned degrees in history and gender studies with a focus on the U.S. food industry. After their time at Wesleyan, Peyton worked for Nebraskans Against Gun Violence. There, they organized the organization’s Pride events and focused on its presence in the LGBTQ+ community.
Peyton is also the founder and director of Four Lights Films, a video production company that creates both features and short films. They look forward to helping Civic Nebraska’s videography and storytelling efforts in the democracy-building space.
