Strengthening Democracy Awards 2021: ‘Character in the Collective’
By Civic Nebraska
It was an engaging, stirring, and inspiring evening April 29. Strengthening Democracy Awards 2021 had a little bit of everything – from Eric Liu’s keynote address on manifesting “character in the collective” and conjuring civic power, to a series of testimonials from our 10 honorees about why they do what they do to improve our state’s civic life. If you missed the event, here it is in its entirety.
Wasn’t that amazing?
If you feel as inspired as we did after this year’s gathering, we hope you’ll help us continue our ongoing mission to create a more modern, robust democracy for all Nebraskans.
There are three ways you can act today:
1. Make a donation to Civic Nebraska, which will directly go to our programs that build young civic leaders, work with towns and cities across the state to create stronger civic life, and protect voting rights for all.
2. Order a copy of our new book, Reclaiming We: Twenty Everyday Acts to Strengthen the Common Good and Defend Democracy, which was released just this week! This inexpensive guidebook is an easy-to-read, no-nonsense manual for powerful democratic citizenship. Order it online in paperback or eBook format via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books (eBook only), or locally through Francie & Finch in Lincoln or The Bookworm in Omaha.
3. Get involved! We’re always seeking volunteers and community-minded folks interested in making a difference. From being our boots on the ground at polling places to observe Nebraska elections to spending time and sharing talent in our school-based after-school youth civic programs, our volunteers are an invaluable resource as we work toward our mission. Let us know if you’d like to get more closely involved in our democracy-building work!
Thanks again for joining us in recognizing this year’s honorees. Now, let’s go out and strengthen our democracy — together!
