The Executive Director oversees operations, finance, development, and programmatic activities. The Executive Director will also work with senior leadership to ensure the strategic plan is being carried out and opportunities to do so are maximized.
As our Executive Director, you will:
- Serve as the organization’s principal leader and representative to the larger community.
- Work with and advise key senior directors and administrative team members to provide leadership and guidance on development, financial, programmatic, people and culture, and policy matters.
- Promote a high-performance, continuous improvement culture that values shared learning, leadership development, and collaboration.
- Contribute to the development of Civic Nebraska’s strategic goals and objectives, including overseeing the creation of the organization’s three-year strategic plan.
- Mentor and develop senior leadership using a supportive and collaborative approach, which includes setting objectives, establishing priorities, monitoring and evaluating results, and providing accountability.
- Work with the Development team and senior leadership to raise sufficient funds to meet the organization’s operations and program goals.
- Ensure that Civic Nebraska adheres to the strategic plan in partnership with senior leadership and delivers status reports to the board.
- Direct the organization’s legal, policy, and programmatic strategy in voting rights, civic health, and youth civic leadership.
- In partnership with the senior leadership team, ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Serve as the senior liaison to the Civic Nebraska and Nebraska Votes’ (an associated c4 organization) board and committees; present quarterly status reports to the Board of Directors on the organization’s finances and programs. Call attention to critical matters at select board of directors and committee meetings.
An ideal candidate will have the following background or a combination of the following qualifications:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in organizational leadership.
- Three or more years of experience in one or more of Civic Nebraska’s core program issue areas is a plus.
- At least 3-5 years of management experience.
- An empathetic, enthusiastic, innovative, adaptable, and proactive leader capable of working with diverse teams to reach a common goal.
- Strong management skills, including coaching, conflict resolution, and facilitating leadership development in others.
- A self-starter and strategic thinker who can initiate and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- The ability to make timely, effective, and ethical decisions.
- The ability to develop strong, meaningful, authentic relationships with staff, external partners, stakeholders, funders, donors, and community members.
- A clear communicator who can compel audiences through writing and speaking.
- Have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- A law or post-graduate degree is a plus.
Salary and Benefits: This position will earn from $120,000 to $130,000, depending upon skills and experience. You can work a hybrid 3-2 schedule, Tue-Thur at the Lincoln HQ office, and remote work on Monday and Friday. Benefit options include medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage. The position includes unlimited paid time off and a 401K option after one year. This is a full-time, exempt position.
