Are you ready to empower community members through grassroots organizing and advocacy? Does educating voters about the processes of political change and strengthening democratic engagement excite you? If so, you may be Civic Nebraska’s next Director of Voting Rights Programs! This position will lead programs and initiatives such as non-partisan Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts, non-partisan election observation and protection, and support policy advocacy efforts to improve access to voting and fair elections. In this position, you will plan and supervise programs and initiatives to expand engagement across the State of Nebraska. This position supervises a team of voting rights coordinators and organizers, including but not limited to, grassroots field organizers, data specialists, and temporary Get Out The Vote (GOTV) canvassers.

As our Director of Voting Rights, you get to:

  • Strategize and develop programs and initiatives that inspire action in accordance with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic plan, including but not limited to:
    • directing nonpartisan election education and outreach strategies;
    • building a leadership infrastructure to recruit and maintain a robust volunteer base of statewide voting rights advocates who are trained and ready to support our mission; and
    • overseeing a grassroots advocacy and political engagement infrastructure for voter contact and GOTV activities
  • Manage voting rights team members by fostering collaboration, holding them accountable for goals, providing regular feedback, and supporting their professional development
  • Attend, organize, and/or lead statewide Voting Rights Coalition meetings to build relationships, identify opportunities for collaboration, and advance the goals of Civic Nebraska 
  • Support voting rights programs and initiatives across both 501(c)3 organizational and affiliate 501(c)4 modes and partnerships, adhering to excellent compliance and reporting practices
  • Coordinate with Executive Director, Public Policy Director, and Communications Director on Civic Nebraska’s legal and policy portfolio to advance voting rights, protect against voter suppression, and ensure elections run smoothly by:
    • developing and executing advocacy campaigns focused on specific policy issues or legislative change;
    • engaging with the Secretary of State’s Office and local election officials to identify opportunities for partnership in public outreach and education efforts;
    • communicating with media contacts and public officials with the highest standard of professionalism; and
    • supporting the organization’s legal activities and litigation objectives
  • Collaborate with the Development team on fundraising initiatives by;
    • casting a clear programmatic vision and compelling need statement for external stakeholders and supporters; 
    • supporting grant and reporting requirements;
    • designing evaluation practices that track and report data to measure our progress related to voting rights initiatives; and
    • crafting an annual program budget and ensure financial accountability of program resources and assets; and
    • meeting with donors and key stakeholders, providing progress updates and sharing outcomes

This role might be for you if you have the following qualifications: 

  • Excellent planning, priority-setting, and time management skills and ability to anticipate and plan ahead for potential challenges
  • Experience working with coalitions and developing partnerships to advance shared goals
  • Strong understanding of community, especially with regard to expanding civic infrastructure, advocacy mobilization, and power building
  • Experience with contact management systems, voter file systems, and digital advocacy tools
  • Intimate knowledge of organizing methodology and best practices to inform thoughtful outreach strategies across diverse communities
  • A focus on leadership development and the ability to manage from strategic to tactical levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with diverse stakeholders to produce high-quality results

Salary & Benefits

This position will earn a salary ranging from $68,600 upward, dependent upon skills and experience. You have the option to work a hybrid 3-2 schedule, Tue-Thur at the Lincoln HQ office and remote work on Monday and Friday. Benefit options include medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage. Position includes unlimited paid time off and a 401K option after one year of employment. This is a full-time, exempt position.
