SUMMARY:Election Protector Training
DESCRIPTION:This is required training to participate in Civic Nebraska’s Election Protection Program for the Primary (May 10) and General (Nov. 8) Elections.\nElection Protectors act in a passive role\, monitoring elections and the polling places and reporting their observations back to Civic Nebraska\, particularly instances of concern. As part of their observations\, Election Protectors gather information and chronicle data regarding how elections are run from county to county in our state. They also record any irregularities or different treatment of voters. Volunteers will also confirm that polling places are compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.\nElection Protectors must be at least 18 and live in Nebraska. Civic Nebraska uses the information that is gathered to build a post-election report\, which is shared with county election officials\, state election officials\, and the public to identify areas of success and improvement. This report also informs future legislative initiatives that can improve Nebraska voters’ experiences.\n\nREGISTER FOR THIS TRAINING

SUMMARY:Civic Saturday: WISHING WELL
DESCRIPTION:Civic Saturday is a civic ritual – a place to come together in civic community\, be inspired and encouraged to reflect and connect\, and create new civic traditions that are joyful and communal. It reminds us that we aren’t alone and that we can and must take part in shaping the future of our communities and country. \nJoin Civic Nebraska on Zoom at 11 am CST on Saturday\, Jan. 22\, for Nebraska’s latest Civic Saturday (register here). The theme is Wishing Well and will center on finding clarity to act amid a landscape increasingly shaped by fear. Wishing Well will be Civic Nebraska’s eighth Civic Saturday gathering dating back to December 2019. See archives of all of our gatherings here. \nWhat happens at Civic Saturday? Those who gather will hear poetry from Mimi Yu\, Nebraska’s Youth Poet Laureate; readings of civic texts from Nancy Petitto and Brad Christian-Sallis\, plus music from Jack Rodenburg we can all sing along to. We share thoughts and ideas\, and hear a “civic sermon” from Steve Smith of Lincoln\, a national Civic Saturday Fellow. Participants also break into “Civic Circles” to talk and listen in small groups. \nMost of all\, Civic Saturday brings friends and strangers together to nurture a spirit of shared purpose. It’s a place to connect around the values and practices of being an active citizen and to build relationships and create new civic traditions that are joyful and communal. \nSave your seat!
