SUMMARY:Civic Saturday: HOME FREE
DESCRIPTION:Intense polarization. A sense of disconnection from the place we call home. Feelings of hopelessness and powerlessness. Across all pockets of the country – including Nebraska – many of us are experiencing these same heartaches and challenges.\nBut we are not stuck. Civic Saturday is an antidote to this feeling of apathy and despair. Friends and strangers connect around the values and practices of being an active citizen\, reckoning with our nation’s creed\, building relationships\, and creating new civic traditions that are joyful and communal. Join us at 11 am CDT on Saturday\, June 8\, at First-Plymouth Church’s Mayflower Hall for live music\, original poetry\, inspiring speeches\, and an urgent call to open our hearts to strengthen democracy.

SUMMARY:Planting Party at Pepe's
DESCRIPTION:We’re hosting a planting party from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday\, June 12\, at Pepe’s Bistro\, 1311 S. 11th St. in Lincoln. We’ll plant veggies in raised community garden beds at 11th and B streets and continue painting Pepe’s community mural in the alley. All are welcome to join in the fun! We may have some extra plant seedlings for you to take home\, too! \nWith Pepe’s brick-and-mortar business slowing due to road construction on 11th Street and his food truck engine dying over the weekend\, now is an especially great time to come out to Pepe’s and support his business. Pepe is always giving back to our community\, and I invite you to come out tomorrow and give back through planting\, painting\, and/or eating some great vegan food!

SUMMARY:The Civic Season
DESCRIPTION:July 4 commemorates the moment a new nation was born\, based on ideals that each generation since has worked to bring to life:  freedom\, equality\, justice\, and opportunity. Juneteenth\, celebrated just a few weeks earlier\, reminds us of the struggles and hard-won victories in our ongoing journey to form a “more perfect union.” Civic Season unites our oldest federal holiday with our newest\, mobilizing a movement to understand our past and shape our future. \nThis summer\, no matter where you are\, you can connect to stories\, inspiration\, and tools to help you power our democracy\, from a vast array of credible sources. Civic Season is the flagship program from Made By Us\, a network of hundreds of museums\, historic sites\, libraries\, and archives unleashing access to history for younger generations who have the most at stake. \nCIVIC SEASON EVENTS
