SUMMARY:Race\, Religion\, and Social Justice Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:Tri-Faith Initiative and the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Department of Religious Studies invite you to the second annual Race\, Religion\, and Social Justice Conference on June 7-8 at the Tri-Faith Commons in Omaha.\nThis year’s theme is “Building Bridges of Hope.” Hope is not simply wishful thinking. Hope is an intentional\, confident expectation that the social issues we are addressing ought to\, and can\, be overcome. This conference is making connections across differences – institutional differences\, divided communities\, and dissimilarities between individuals.\nThe conference will address intersections between race\, religion\, and social justice across different sectors of society. We invite multi-sector approaches — nonprofit and civic leaders\, diversity\, equity\, access\, and inclusion practitioners\, community members\, educators\, physical and mental health practitioners\, artists\, religious communities\, and scholars.\nREGISTER FOR THIS EVENT

SUMMARY:Webinar: Using TROVE to map Nebraska voter turnout
DESCRIPTION:Nebraskans can delve into a TROVE of voter participation rates for their city\, town\, or neighborhood thanks to Civic Nebraska’s new mapping platform. The interactive Tool to Reflect Overall Voter Engagement shows voter turnout from the November 2022 general election down to the ZIP Code and census tract – eg\, neighborhood – levels. In addition\, TROVE compares voter participation against demographic characteristics of census tracts to analyze which may correlate to higher or lower voter turnout.\nJoin our Civic Health Programs and Voting Rights Initiatives teams on Zoom at noon CDT (11 am MDT) on June 15 to discuss the new tool\, its potential uses and best practices\, and how you can share your self-guided findings with the public.\nREGISTER FOR THIS VIRTUAL EVENT HERE

SUMMARY:PURPLE film screening & discussion at First-Plymouth
DESCRIPTION:At a time of immense division\, PURPLE tells the story of Americans with opposing viewpoints confronting their disagreements head-on and discovering the concerns and experiences that lie behind each other’s positions.  Filmed in rural Wisconsin and Iowa – in a swing region within two bordering swing states – PURPLE presents a rare political conversation that uplifts\, provokes\, and inspires while going toward the heat of passionate political differences.\nAs the 2024 election fans the flames of already volatile divisions\, PURPLE offers a vision for what a healthy public debate on fault-line issues might look like.\nJoin us for a free screening and discussion from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Tuesday\, April 16\, in the Mayflower Hall of First Plymouth Church.

SUMMARY:Walking To Fix Our Democracy: Lincoln
DESCRIPTION:Rick Hubbard\, an 82-year-old Vermont man\,  has been walking across the United States and having conversations about making U.S. democracy more inclusive\, responsive\, and effective for all. In May\, Rick has been putting one foot in front of another across Nebraska\, and now he’s zeroing in on our Capital City. His journey will eventually end in January 2025 in Washington\, D.C.\nJoin us at 2:30 pm CDT on Wednesday\, May 29\, at Hamann Rose Garden at Antelope Park in Lincoln – where we’ll meet up with Rick for a leg of his journey through the Star City. We’ll walk together to Shelter No. 1 at Antelope Park\, where we’ll all have a chance to hear about Rick’s adventure so far\, the planks of a small-d democratic reform platform\, and learn about efforts in Nebraska to make democracy fairer and more representative for all.\nHere’s our local route. We’ll start by walking north along 27th Street toward Capitol Parkway. Then we’ll head east on the Rock Island and Billy Wolff trails past the northern edge of the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. Once passing A Street\, we’ll walk a short distance to Shelter No. 1 in Antelope Park.
